Benefits of Nutrition and Vitamins

Nature has provided variety of food from humans, there are crops which yield different kinds of food stuff like grains, fruits, vegetables, life cannot be possible without having nutrition, all living organisms including humans, plants, animals, insects and microorganisms require nutrition.

Nutrition has many definitions, sometimes nutrition is defined as process of ingestion, absorption, utilization, metabolism and elimination of food from organisms, on occasions nutrition is also defined a science of food and study of various food ingredients and parts like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. Nutrition can also be defining as group of substances which are required to maintain life like food, water, soil and oxygen. Nutrition is a part and parcel of life; one cannot live if deprived of nutrition for few days. Baby in the uterus of woman get nutrition and require it to form and grow, even a small insect inside a stone or burrow gain nutrition.

Importance of nutrition clears from the scientific studies; a man cannot live more than three days in absence of water intake, and cannot survive more than fifteen days if food is not provided, body cells continuously require desired amounts of nutrition to do special functions like respiration, blood supply, body movements and conscious state. In absence of oxygen, one can die within minutes. In case a person is getting insufficient amount of nutrition he or she becomes week to do normal activities and gradually loses all power. Even if we discontinue water and fertilizer supply, and sunlight from plants, they wither within days. If food is not supplied to cattle, it will stop giving milk within days, that’s why farmers give nutritious diet to their animals to yield healthy meat, and milk from them.

Nutrition is most important for the young ones of any species, whether neonates, infants or children, baby plants or seedlings and new born of animals. New arrivals are prone to nutritional compromise if not cared properly. Nutrition is required for growth and development, increase in length and weight of young species.

Body cells are made up of all the nutrients we take in our diet like proteins, lipid or fats and carbohydrates, water is also an essential constituent of cell, and required for metabolism, vitamins play special role to remote control the function of cells, they act as enzymes or co factors to facilitate various cell functions. Important vitamins are grouped into water and fat soluble vitamins, fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A, E, D are antioxidants, they fight free radicals which are harm full byproducts of metabolism; vitamin A is required for healthy vision, skin, lungs and brain, vitamin E is essential for making cement substance like collagen which holds tissues tightly, it is antioxidant which prevents aging, Vitamin D is needed for strong bones, teeth and joints. Water soluble vitamins are equally important; water soluble vitamins are vitamin C and B complex vitamins. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, essential for healthy gums, skin, heart, and blood vessels, vitamin C is also required for absorption of iron, a mineral which is required to form blood; B complex vitamins are group of vitamins which are required for normal metabolism and lack of any one can result in serious diseases manifesting as diarrhea, loss of memory, weakness, iron deficiency, pale skin, shortness of breath, loss of appetite and weight loss.

To remain healthy and active nutritious diet is mandatory with essential vitamins and other components, because vitamins play an important vital role in physiology of humans, animals and plants.
